The Role of Information Technology in Digital Transformation: A Theoretical Perspective
Abstract
Digital transformation has become a strategic priority for organizations seeking to enhance competitiveness, innovation, and operational efficiency in the modern era. Information Technology (IT) plays a fundamental role in enabling this transformation by supporting data integration, process automation, communication, and decision-making capabilities. This study presents a theoretical perspective on the role of information technology in digital transformation by synthesizing concepts, frameworks, and viewpoints from existing literature. The research method employed is a qualitative literature review, focusing on scholarly articles, books, and reputable academic sources related to digital transformation and information technology. The study discusses how IT infrastructure, cloud computing, big data analytics, and intelligent systems act as key drivers of organizational change. Furthermore, it highlights challenges such as resistance to change, integration complexity, cybersecurity risks, and the need for digital skills. This theoretical study provides a conceptual understanding that can serve as a foundation for future empirical research and practical implementation strategies in organizations undergoing digital transformation.
