Information Systems as Decision Support Tools: A Conceptual Analysis

Abstract

Information systems have become essential tools in supporting managerial and organizational decision-making processes in the digital era. By integrating data processing, information management, and analytical capabilities, information systems enable decision makers to access accurate, timely, and relevant information. This study presents a conceptual analysis of information systems as decision support tools by examining theoretical perspectives and insights from existing literature. The research employs a qualitative literature review method, focusing on scholarly articles, books, and reputable academic publications related to information systems and decision support systems. The study discusses how information systems contribute to structured, semi-structured, and unstructured decision-making processes through data integration, reporting, and analytical features. Furthermore, it highlights challenges such as data quality, system integration, user competence, and technological complexity. This conceptual study aims to provide a theoretical foundation that can guide future empirical research and practical implementation of information systems for effective decision support in organizations.
